As the apparently last disciple and heir apparent of jiqsaw, Hoffman goes on the hunt to protect his secret. using a series of increasingly bizarre and grisly traps, Hoffman eliminates his enemies one by one to protect the jiqsaw legacy.
The scene I have chosen from this movie to write about is the ending scene. the reason why I have chosen this scene is because its interesting and creates suspense as to what's going to happen next in the following chapter because the end of the movie finishes in a ominous way. The ending scene is about a detective called Hoffman who has taken over jigsaws work he walks into the room with the glass box, but doesn't see detective Strahm ( he knows who Hoffman really is and knows that he isn't the hero he's the evil detective who's lost it) anywhere. Strahm then comes from behind and shoves Hoffman into the box. Hoffman signals for Strahm to play another tape, which is lying on the floor. The tape tells Strahm that he made the wrong choice, and he is going to die and not live as promised. The walls begins to close in on the room as the glass box lowers into the floor with Hoffman safe from the walls which was made for Strahm to live and Hoffman to be squished and die, Strahm attempts to get out, but is brutally squished and died that's how it ends.
In the ending scene of saw v theres only one location and its Jigsaws HQ,Jigsaws HQ is where he does all the games as he says and its very eerie. the whole place is a trap and when Strahm discovers and goes around the HQ its very isolated and no one knows what lurks about in the place. its very dark and its dangerous to be about by yourself. the room with the glass box is small and unearthly its a trap because once the door closes you either die or achieve. Jigsaws HQ is a dungeon its where people die and if they live they are in pain and hurt terribly so either way they are dead because their injuries are too unhealthy and they wont survive but it could be the other way for others. the room where Strahm dies is very deathly the colour of the walls and door is grey, the colour grey represents death because when people die they go grey that's why the room represents death.
The props used in the scene: glass box, tape, without these the movie would have no meaning because each object represents something like the tape, the tape represets two things life and death because the tape is too unbelievable Strahm thinks its a trap he thinks if he goes into the box he's going to die but its not its going to keep him safe so he doesn't and he pushes Hoffman into it and Strahm who's the good person dies and the evil detective who doesn't deserve to live gets to live. The tape foreshadows that Strahm is going to die because the tape cannot be trusted.
The costume, hair and make up ties the movie together and makes it more realistic for example, when Hoffman and Strahm fight the blood that is represented on their faces show who's the weak one and who's the tough one. it also made their fight believable. Hoffman is a strange person he's quiet and the quiet people are the dangerous people, they keep things to themselves and are the ones people don't find suspicious of doing things because they seem innocent, Hoffman is one of those people. Hoffman wears black clothes, his black clothes represents he has no heart and that his heart is a black heart. it also represents secrets, Hoffman keeps deep dark secrets like the fact he's taken over jigsaw's work and he's killed his entire team. He has a long black leather jacket this also represents murderer, evil because the long leather jacket is what murders wear in most horror movies.
Throughout the movie there are different facial expressions and body languages given so people understand the emotions and the actors characteristics. For example Hoffman gets pushed in the glass box by Strahm, Hoffman has a smug on his face because he knows he's going to be safe, he knew everything that was going to happen and he is proud of his face. His facial expression showed us that Hoffman is really evil and has no sympathy. Strahm realises that he's going to die when the walls start to close in he is petrified after all he has done he's going to die. his body language shows us that he's struggling he seems weak and hopeless. He try's his best to escape but he doesn't have the capability to do so.
There's a high angle and a common shot where Strahm orders Hoffman how to open the box so he can go inside and be safe and Hoffman can die instead, the high angle is on Hoffman and he's looking down on Strahm,it represents how weak and helpless Strahm is and how powerful and safe Hoffman is. there's a point of view shot where the walls start closing in on Strahm and Hoffman is watching him from above its a POV because it shows Hoffman's view from where he is. During the flashback there's a close up on the real jigsaw's face from a letterbox it represents how someone is watching jigsaw from a letterbox and knows something about him. the fact that the letterbox is small it shows how the people that know things the things they know is small facts and its complicated. Another high shot is created where Strahm looks up at the ceiling and he looks helpless and innocent. it also represents that he's looking at a trap, during that part it foreshadows that he can never get out and that's where he going to die.
